Who can do what

Each level adds to the one before. The owner can do everything, and a few things only the owner can do.

Share a sensor

  1. 1
    Open Sharing
On the sensor page press Settings at the top right, then Sharing under Access on the left. The owner and people with Can manage see this page.
  2. 2
Enter an email address and pick a level
Any address works, with or without a HydroNode account. Pick Can view, Can edit or Can manage below the field, then press Invite. People with Can manage invite as Can view or Can edit.
  3. 3
    Wait for a yes
The invite shows under Waiting for a yes with the date it runs out, 14 days later. Once accepted, the person moves to Has access. The × next to an open invite withdraws it.

Settings, Sharing: invite, see who has access, change a level or remove someone.

If the address belongs to a HydroNode account, the request lands in that account's messages. Any other address gets an email with a link. HydroNode answers the same in both cases, so nobody can use the invite field to find out who has an account.

When someone shares with you

A request shows in Messages under Account, with the sensor, who sent it, what you could do and how long it is open. Answer it right there with Accept or Decline. Open requests are also listed on your profile under Shares waiting for you.

A request in Messages. Nothing is shared until you press Accept.
  • An invite by email opens a page that shows who invites you and to which sensor. Opening it changes nothing. Sign in with any account and accept: the link proves the mailbox.
  • Sign in with the invited address and the invite also appears in your messages.
  • The invite email has a second link to stop all invites to that address, from anyone.
  • The phone apps show requests as messages. Accept them on the web for now.

Change a level, remove someone, leave

  • Change a level: pick another one next to the person under Has access. It applies at once, no new invite.
  • Remove someone: press × next to the person, then Remove. Their alerts stop at once.
  • Leave: on a sensor shared with you the entry reads Your access. Leave sensor ends the share for you; the owner gets a message. To come back, they invite you again.
  • People with Can manage change and remove Can view and Can edit. Only the owner touches Can manage.

Everyone hears what they choose

Under Settings → Monitoring, Tell me belongs to whoever looks at it. A person with Can view can get a push when the sensor goes offline, without changing anything for the owner. For someone the sensor is shared with, everything starts off. When the sensor counts as delayed or offline stays a decision for the owner and Can manage. See Sensor Monitoring.

  • From Can edit, people can write automations for the sensor. They run as long as their author keeps that access.
  • The owner and Can manage see those rules in their own list under Operations → Automations, with the author's name, and can pause or delete them.
  • A webhook sends readings out of HydroNode, so a rule with a webhook needs Can manage.

What others see of you

People who share a sensor with you see your name and picture in their access list. Turn off Public profile under Profile → Preferences and they only see your email address. An open invite never shows a name or picture.
